Greater Cincinnati Area Schools
The Greater Cincinnati area has 49 public school districts, more than 200 private schools, including, Christian, Jewish, Islamic and hundreds of parochial schools offering education from K-12. For higher education, there are more than 30 colleges and universities in Greater Cincinnati.
Many area schools have been nationally recognized for their excellence having been awarded Blue Ribbons for their outstanding achievements from the US Department of Education. In Newsweek's 2010, list of 1,500 top U.S. public high schools, three area high schools ranked in the Top 200: Walnut Hills High School (#65 in 2010, #61 in '09; #57 in '08; #36 in '07; #65 in '06), Wyoming High School (#77 in 2010, #70 in '09; #89 in '08, #107 in '07; #100 in '06) and Indian Hill High School (# 190 in 2010, #116 in '09; #124 in '08, #84 in '07; #68 in '06). Other area high schools ranked by Newsweek in the top 5% in the nation in this 2009 survey are: Mariemont, Sycamore, & Turpin.
Each year, school districts and schools are graded by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) using 30 indicators. They're rated Excellent, Effective, Continuous Improvement, Academic Watch and Academic Emergency. The state ratings are known as "report cards".
